Rough Patch or the End? The Astrology of Relationship Timing
Every long relationship goes through hard stretches. The agonising question is always the same: is this a rough patch we grow through, or the slow ending we keep avoiding? Astrology will not — and should not — answer that for you. But it can do something genuinely useful: show you what kind of pressure you're under, where it's coming from, and roughly how long it lasts.
Compatibility is the map; transits are the weather
Your synastry and Ashtakoota describe the terrain of a relationship — its lasting shape. But relationships also have weather: moving planets (called transits) passing over the sensitive points of your charts, switching pressures on and off over time. A great relationship can hit terrible weather. A shaky one can enjoy a calm spell. Knowing which you're in changes everything.
The transits that test couples
A few cycles show up again and again when couples struggle:
- Saturn crossing a key point (your Sun, Moon, Venus, or your composite). Saturn is the reality-check. It brings seriousness, distance, sometimes cold feet — and it asks, is this real, and are you willing to do the work? Saturn doesn't end good relationships; it ends ones that were already hollow, and it deepens ones that aren't. It's slow — months, not days.
- The Saturn return (around ages 29 and 58). Whole life structures get re-examined, relationships included. Many couples wobble here. Many also commit for real here.
- Venus and Mars retrograde periods. Venus retrograde, especially, has a reputation for stirring up relationship doubts, exes, and "do I still want this?" questions. The key word is period — it passes.
- Hard transits to the 7th house (the house of partnership). These can spotlight whatever's been unspoken in the relationship.
The most useful thing transits give you: a clock
Here's the reframe that helps people most. A transit has a beginning, a peak, and an end. When you know the hard feeling is, say, a Saturn transit that wraps up in a few months, you can hold the relationship differently — let's not make a permanent decision inside temporary weather. So many breakups are weather mistaken for climate. So many marriages are saved by simply waiting out the storm before deciding.
And — the brand line, because it's never truer than here — the chart is a compass, not a verdict. Astrology can tell you "you're in a heavy Saturn season, it eases by autumn." It cannot tell you to stay or to go. That choice is yours, and it should be. What you get is context, so you're not deciding blind, inside a feeling that won't last.
The Vedic view: dashas and transits
Vedic astrology has a powerful timing system of its own: the dashas (planetary periods) and gochara (transits). A tense season can coincide with a particular dasha lord, and — like Western transits — these periods change. The shared wisdom of both traditions is humane: don't judge a whole relationship by its hardest season.
How Alwenna reads it
If you're in the fog of "is this fixable or finished?", ask Alwenna. She'll look at what's moving through your charts right now — the pressure, where it's coming from, when it likely eases — in plain, grounded language. Not "you'll break up." Not "you're fine." A clear-eyed read on the timing, so you can make your own decision from solid ground, not from a passing storm.
