"Lust or Love? What Your Chart Says About the Difference"
In the first few weeks, lust and love feel exactly the same — the racing heart, the constant thoughts, the certainty that this is it. That's by design; the body floods you with the same chemistry either way. But astrologically they aren't the same thing at all. Desire and love come from different planets, light up different parts of the chart, and last for very different lengths of time. Your chart can tell them apart — even when your heart can't yet.
Two different planets
The clearest split in the whole chart:
- Mars is desire. It's the raw pull — physical attraction, the chase, the heat. Mars wants, pursues, and burns (your Mars sign: how you desire and fight).

How the chart shows the difference
Look at where the contacts land between two charts:
- Heavy Mars–Mars and Mars–Pluto, little else. Pure heat — magnetic and probably temporary (Pluto in synastry).
- Venus and Moon contacts too. Desire plus tenderness and emotional safety — the makings of love, not just attraction.
- 5th house vs 7th house. A strong 5th-house pull is romance and play; the 7th house is where it turns toward partnership and commitment (the 5th house: romance and play; your 7th house: who you fall for).
Lust lives in Mars and the early 5th-house rush. Love adds Venus, the Moon, and the move toward the 7th.
What it does — and doesn't — mean
Telling them apart is clarity, not judgment. Lust isn't bad — it's often where love starts, and a relationship with no desire can be its own kind of sad. The trap is mistaking pure desire for love and building a life on a feeling that was only ever the chase. Knowing which one you've got doesn't kill the romance; it just stops you from misreading a spark as a soulmate.
It's a tendency, not a sentence. A lust-heavy beginning can grow real love if the Venus and Moon connections are there to deepen into. And a gentle, Venus-led start can absolutely catch fire. The chart shows you what's currently driving the connection — what you build from it is still yours.
